"Pataphors” comes from the term pataphysics which essentially describes two degrees of separation from reality. Pataphysics is a pseudophilosophy dedicated to studying what lies beyond the realm of metaphysics. It is a parody of the theory and methods of modern science and is often expressed in nonsensical language. The term was defined as “the science of imaginary solutions, which symbolically attributes the properties of objects, described by their virtuality, to their lineaments". During the 1960s pataphysics was used as a conceptual principle to some artists and their work usually tended to focus on the processes of their creation, and elements of chance or arbitrary choices.
Pataphors is an exhibition that gathered 17 artists from PG Diploma from Byam Shaw , who inhabited Islington Art Factory space to establish a relationship between image and ideas. Each artist has been proposed to make a correspondence between a piece of work and a chosen quote or short text.
